Bangkok Rooftops ("we", "us") runs bkkrooftopguide.com and the Bangkok Rooftops mobile app. This page explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have — in plain language, without the usual legalese padding.
The short version
We don't require an account, don't sell your data, and don't run ads. Browsing rooftops, filtering, and saving favorites all work without sending us anything. We only collect information you choose to give us — through the contact form or a review — plus a small amount of anonymous, aggregate analytics.
Favorites
Saved favorites are stored only on your own device — in your browser's local storage on the website, or in the app's local device storage in the mobile app. They're never transmitted to our servers and we have no way to see what you've favorited.
Contact form
If you message us via the contact page, we collect the name, email address and message you provide. This is sent directly to us by email to reply to you — it isn't stored in a database.
Reviews
Submitting a review collects your email address, star rating, and — if you choose to write one — your name and review text. This is stored so we can moderate and publish reviews, and we email ourselves a copy to approve or reject it. Your email address is never shown publicly. We also briefly note the IP address a review was submitted from, solely to prevent spam — it isn't linked to your identity or kept longer than needed for that purpose.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns — things like which pages are popular and how people generally navigate the site. This data is anonymized and isn't used to identify you personally. You can opt out using Google's browser add-on .
Map & weather data
The interactive map is powered by Mapbox, and tonight's sunset, weather and air quality come from Open-Meteo and sunrisesunset.io. Loading these embeds and API calls may share your general network information (such as your IP address) with those providers, governed by their own privacy policies. No rooftop search or filter data is sent to them — only what's needed to render the map itself.
Cookies
We don't use cookies for accounts, tracking you across other sites, or advertising. Google Analytics sets its own standard analytics cookies, described in the section above.
Children's privacy
Bangkok Rooftops covers bars and nightlife venues and isn't directed at, or knowingly used to collect information from, children under 13.
Your choices
To ask what data we hold about you, or to have a review or contact message deleted, just reach out — we'll take care of it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted here directly.
